Bike care & servicing

Simple care at home, and knowing when it is time for a mechanic.

Everyday care

How often should I service my bike?
It depends on how often you ride and the conditions. We recommend a first service at around four months, sooner for frequent, wet, dusty, sandy, loaded or off-road use. A mechanic can recommend an ongoing schedule for your use. Our Bike Maintenance Guide explains home care and professional servicing. Do not wait for a scheduled service if something feels loose or does not work correctly.
What maintenance can I do at home?
Basic care includes wiping off dirt with a soft cloth, drying the bike after wet rides, checking tyre pressure with a gauge and looking for wear or loose parts. Follow the instructions for your bike and use suitable bicycle products. Leave work beyond your skills or tools to a qualified mechanic. See our Bike Maintenance Guide.
How should I care for my chain?
Follow the drivetrain manufacturer’s cleaning and lubrication instructions. Use a suitable bicycle chain lubricant, wipe away excess, and keep all lubricant away from brake discs and pads. Do not apply chain oil to a belt drive. Avoid handling or cleaning a moving drivetrain.
How can I help prevent rust?
Store the bike in a dry, sheltered place, clean off dirt and salt, and dry it after rain or washing. Avoid high-pressure washing. Inspect metal parts regularly and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. If corrosion is severe or affects a safety-critical part, have it assessed before riding.

Getting a service

When should I stop riding and get help?
Stop if the brakes do not work properly, steering or wheels feel loose, a pedal or crank arm moves abnormally, or a part looks damaged. Do not wait for the next scheduled service. Visit Something wrong? or contact us for help.
Where can I book a bicycle service?
You can use a qualified local bicycle shop, or see our Workshop page for Horacio servicing information. If you think the issue may be covered by warranty and want us to cover costs, contact us before authorising work. Routine servicing and a warranty assessment are different processes.
