E-bikes

Yes. Every Horacio e-bike is pedal-assist only, with a 250W motor that stops assisting at 25 km/h and no throttle, in line with Australian e-bike (pedelec) rules. You do not need a licence or registration. Road rules still apply, so check your state’s rules for helmets, lights and where you can ride.

NSW: e-bikes sold in New South Wales must also carry NSW safety certification. The Serenio Series meets these requirements. Certification for our other e-bike models is in progress. If you are in NSW, contact us before ordering any other e-bike.

Choose belt drive (Serenio) if you want a clean, quiet, low-maintenance bike for commuting and everyday riding. It pairs a Gates belt with Bafang automatic shifting, so there is no oil and no gears to think about. Choose chain drive (ThunderX) if you want an electric mountain bike or hybrid for mixed terrain and trails, with a Shimano CUES 1×9 drivetrain. If you are not sure, contact us with where you plan to ride.

It depends on the model, the assist level, rider weight, terrain, tyre pressure, wind and temperature.

Serenio (504 Wh Samsung battery): up to 120 km in Eco mode in ideal conditions; most riders get about 70–90 km in Normal mode.
ThunderX (374 Wh battery): up to 70 km.

The Serenio battery charges in about 4–6 hours with the included charger. The battery is removable, so you can charge it on the bike or indoors from a standard 240V Australian power point. Use only the charger supplied with your bike.

Charge it indoors at room temperature and unplug it once it is full. Do not leave it fully flat for long periods. If you will not ride for a few weeks, store the battery partly charged in a cool, dry place and top it up every month or so. Keep it away from heat and direct sun, and never use a battery that is damaged, swollen or has been dropped hard. Follow the battery instructions supplied with your bike.

Very little. A Gates Carbon Drive belt needs no oil and will not rust. Never put chain oil on it. Rinse off dirt with water and a soft brush when needed, and have the belt tension checked when the bike is serviced. With correct alignment and tension, a Gates belt can last up to 12,000 km. It is covered for 2 years or 12,000 km, whichever comes first.
