Kids Bike Size Guide

Choosing the right kids bike starts with your child’s height, not their age. A bike that fits now is easier to control, safer to stop and more fun to ride.

Size chart by height

Rider height Wheel size Bike Typical age
107–130 cm 20" Vortex 20 (SEAL Cycles): 7-speed, disc brakes around 5–8
119–143 cm 24" Spark 24 (HORACIO): Shimano CUES 9-speed, hydraulic disc brakes around 8–11
119–143 cm 24" Vortex 24 (SEAL Cycles): Shimano 8-speed, disc brakes around 8–11
144–164 cm 26" Vortex 26 (SEAL Cycles): Shimano 8-speed, disc brakes around 10 and up

Ages are a rough guide only. Always go by height. Each product page shows the exact range for that bike. Browse all kids mountain bikes.

Common questions

My child is between two sizes. Which should I choose?
Between about 119 and 130 cm, both the 20" and the 24" can fit. Choose the 20" if your child is newer to riding or likes to feel in control. Choose the 24" if they already ride confidently. If you are not sure, contact us with your child’s height and we will help.
Should I buy a bigger bike for my child to grow into?
We do not recommend it. A bike that is too big is harder to balance, steer and stop. Choose the bike that fits your child now.
What is the difference between Spark 24 and Vortex 24?
Both fit riders about 119–143 cm. Spark 24 is a HORACIO bike with a Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes. Vortex 24 is a SEAL Cycles bike with a Shimano 8-speed drivetrain and disc brakes.
My child is taller than 164 cm. What next?
Riders over about 164 cm are usually ready for a small adult mountain bike. See our mountain bikes and use the Size Guide on each product page, or contact us for help.
Do kids bikes come assembled?
Courier-delivered bikes arrive about 85% assembled. Depending on the model, you fit the handlebar, front wheel, pedals and saddle. See our assembly guides.
